Mourning Our Tau Delta Sisters
October 27, 2015 It is with sadden hearts that we share the loss of three sisters from the Tau Delta Chapter at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. Sisters Akuel Majouk, Jennifer Guzman, and Yoselin Deleon, as well as a close friend of the chapter, Mariana Ramirez were traveling to Kansas City on Sat., Oct. 24 when their car swerved to avoid a deer and crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the Omaha World-Herald. This is not only a tragic loss to our sisterhood, but to the fraternal community as a whole, and the Tau Delta Chapter and Creighton University directly. These women were active, engaged, and dedicated to bettering their communities. It has been repeatedly said that these women were making a difference. They were wonderful and truly a blessing to this world. SLG has received a multitude of outpouring from the fraternal community and we thank them for their support during this difficult time for our sisterhood. Yoselin Deleon, 21 years old, was a first-generation college student and active in helping the immigrant community. She is described as fearless and fun, and was set to graduate in May 2016. Yoselin's wake and visitation is Tues., Oct. 27 from 4-10 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe 2310 O St., Omaha, Neb. Jennifer Guzman was dedicated to her academics and is described as caring and always with a beautiful smile. She was 21 years old. Jennifer’s viewing will be Wed., Oct. 28 from 5-8 p.m. at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries 1010 North 72nd St. Omaha, Neb. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 29 at St. John's Catholic Church on the Creighton University campus with her burial following at 7 p.m. Akuel Majouk was Tau Delta's chapter president and would have turned 22 years old on Oct. 25. Her work ethic was well-known as she worked tirelessly to help South Sudanese refugees settle in Omaha. Akuel is remembered as a caring person that wanted to make a difference in the lives of those around her. She was set to graduate in May 2016 alongside her sisters. Visitation will be held Sat., Oct. 31 at 8 a.m. with Mass following at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia Cathedral 701 N. 40th St., Omaha, Neb. Mariana Ramirez was 21 years old and a close friend of the sisters. She is remembered as a bright person and someone who could light up the room with her smile. Mass will be held Thurs., Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe 2310 O St., Omaha, Neb. with visitation starting at 4 p.m. at Korisko Larkin Staskiewicz Funeral Home 5108 F St., Omaha, Neb. The Tau Delta Chapter created a GoFundMe account to raise money to help support the expenses of the families. Please consider a donation and feel free to share the message, donations are being accepted on GoFundMe Tau Delta Sisters' Funeral Fund. There will be many individuals dealing with stress and feelings of grief. We are working with the university to ensure support for the chapter members is provided through grief counseling at the university. Sisters, if you may need additional support, please reach out to your respective campus counseling services. May the Tau Delta chapter find solace in knowing they have a nation of sisters to help and support them in anything they may need. While our hearts are heavy, the National Board of Directors, Regional Directories and Headquarter staff are working to support our sisters as we all move forward. Our beloved sisters are in our thoughts and in our hearts. Hermanas Por Vida. En este y la otra. |
